Governing Body

Statement by the Chair of the Governing Body

My name is Cindy Bentley and I have been elected by my fellow governors to chair the full Governing Body for the next 12 months. As a Wetherby resident for over 40 years, a Town Councillor and former mayor, I am passionate about our town and our school. I bring to my new role an extensive background in both business and education.

The main role of our Governing Body is to set the school’s long-term goals and to monitor its performance against them. Governors act as ‘critical friends’ to the school’s leadership and staff, balancing independent scrutiny with genuine support for our dedicated team of education professionals.

As individuals, we bring a wide range of skills and experience to the Governing Body, but we have a common aim – to ensure that Wetherby High School is valued as an excellent school and an asset to the community which it serves.

It is critical to the success of the school that governors, staff, students and their families work as a team, thereby enabling all of our students to achieve their full potential and to leave us as confident, caring and creative young adults.

In addition, we want the School to play an active role in the life of our town, including the sharing of our facilities wherever practicable and participating in community events and activities.

Being a school governor demands both time and commitment, but we value diverse contributions and make every effort to accommodate anyone who wishes to become involved. I can be contacted through the school office if you would like to discuss the opportunities.

Alternatively, if you, as a parent, student, teacher or local resident, would like to ask a question or make a comment about the school, whether it be critical or complimentary, please contact us.
