The Queens Jubilee Cooking Competition

Our Queens Jubilee Cooking Competition in collaboration with The Pudding Lab (Boston Spa), Morrisons Wetherby, Wetherby Lions and Printworks North took place on Monday 16th May in the Food DT department throughout the whole day. 16 students from both yr7 and yr8 (4 from each house) participated and spent the day baking a desert.  They either made a recipe or picked a recipe they thought was fit for a queen, then tweaked the ingredients to add their own twist to it. Kingswood Residential Y7 & Y8

Last week we took Year 7 and 8 students away for a great few days of Residential at Kingswood. After a morning of fun activities, we set off for what some thought would be hours in a coach but it was actually only 45 minutes away. Upon arrival we met the residential team and then students quickly found their rooms in one of the three blocks that we had. After that it was straight out for activities. Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 should be incredibly proud of themselves having completed their work experience placements. During the second week of March all students in Year 10 left school to enter the world of work and gain an insight into what working in the 'adult world' looks and feels like. It is a great opportunity for students to develop their communication skills, as well as being brave and going outside of their comfort zone to work in some unfamiliar surroundings. Wetherby High Student wins 2021 Jubilee Award

As a Year 11 student at Wetherby High School Horia plays a leading role in the school community. In recent years, Horia has been a part of two youth organisations, the Infinity Centre and Shantona, which are both placed at the heart of her local community in Harehills. Playing an active role in supporting both of these organisations in the work that they are doing to prevent violence and anti-social behaviour. A fantastic afternoon of 'Wetherby's Got Talent' A brilliant assortment of acts which included Magic, solo singers and bands, drummers and sword tricks. Well done to Robinson House who won with a brilliant version of 'Easy on Me' by Adele. Miss Jefferson met with the winners Beth, Lily & Justin this morning to congratulate them on their brilliant performance.

On Tuesday 7th December, the Performing Arts department brought back the annual Christmas Showcase with an incredible performance staring WHS’s talented students.  Over seventy parents and carers, alongside numerous extremely proud staff, came to watch, as students from Year 7 to Year 11 took to the stage. Together with fantastic performances from the various ensembles, notable performances came from Year 9 Zoe Helm and her mesmerising singing, Year 8’s Amos, Archie and Madi performing the crowd-pleasing Run Run Rudolph and Lily Brown’s incredible first performance at WHS on the Violin with Clean Bandit’s ‘Symphony’. In coaching during Autumn Term 2 we have been working through the 'Be a Campion' book written by Jamie Peacock in collaboration with the Leeds Learning Alliance A wellbeing programme covering Positive Mindset Good Sleep Eating Healthily Physical Activity Students have really had to think about positive influence, confidence and resilience. Tim Bradshaw and Vanessa Ruck gave an inspirational talk to our Y9 & Y10 today. Talking about the adversity they have overcome in their lives, the positive mindset and resilience they have shown to get where they are today Tim was trying to summit Everest in 2015 when the Earthquake hit.  Vanessa's world was turned upside down, resulting in 7 surgeries and a rollercoaster of mental and physical recovery spanning 7 years. Y8 DT Competition

Yesterday we had a very successful Year 8 Girls DT competition. The girls were tasked with building a Formula 1 kit car by following a set of tricky instructions. All 4 teams showed great resilience and teamwork and all 4 final cars were well constructed. We tested the cars for speed and accuracy and the winners were as follows. 1st - Tomlinson 2nd - Robinson 3rd - Trueman 4th - Bremner Well done team Tomlinson
