Character for Achievement

We believe that strong relationships, between the staff and the students and between the students themselves, lead to great learning.

School should be a happy and enjoyable time for our students; a safe learning environment where all students can grow and develop.

Our students know that as a school community, as a year group and as a class group, we are responsible for the progress and development of each other.

We know that to achieve well, students need to be equipped with the independence, determination and resilience to overcome any challenges they may face.

“Leaders, governors and staff passionately embody the school’s vision to create an inclusive environment that values everyone. This is evident in the impressive culture alive in the school, a culture that puts pupils at the centre of all it does.”

HEADTEACHER’S WELCOME

Headteacher Samantha Jefferson

At Wetherby High School, all of our staff are deeply committed to ensuring every child receives an outstanding education. Our curriculum, teaching and pastoral care enable students to achieve at the highest academic level, unlocking doors to the future of their choice.

Our staff and students are ambitious to be the best version of themselves. That ambition extends way beyond their academic excellence. We want our students to reach their full potential academically and as young people moving into adulthood. We understand that central to this is developing character and a sense of social responsibility.

Our Coaching system allows us to know each student well as individuals, their likes and dislikes, their strengths and insecurities, their interests, pets and favourite TV programmes. It means that coaches are there for them on the good and bad days. The relationships formed in Coaching allow the students to feel they belong to the school community. That belonging brings happiness, safety and a platform from which to challenge themselves in their education.

This is a place where young people can be successful not only in their schoolwork but also in their school life. We have so many opportunities for our students, and secondary school is the perfect time for them to experiment and discover where their interests and passions lie.

We place the children and their personal success at the heart of all our work, which means that sometimes we do not take the easiest path, but the path that is right for each individual child. We know that when a child feels safe, happy and supported, they thrive. We are truly proud that our work in this area was signified as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

LEEDS LEARNING ALLIANCE

Wetherby High School are proudly a founding member of the Leeds Learning Alliance.

The Alliance is a charitable trust which binds all members together through a Memorandum of Understanding. We are not a Multi-Academy Trust, instead we are group of successful colleges, universities, schools, charities and public services, representing over 80,000 learners, who are committed to inclusive education for young people in Leeds.

The LLA also provides opportunities for Wetherby High School students to experience enrichment activities provided through collaboration with the organisations involved. This includes inspirational speakers from the Leeds Rhinos and Higher Education experiences with Leeds Trinity University.
